According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Global PC Monitor Tracker report, global PC monitor shipments fell by 5.2% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2021 due to slowing demand; despite the challenging market in the second half of the year, global PC monitor shipments in 2021 Volume still exceeded expectations, up 5.0% year-on-year, with shipments reaching 140 million units, the highest level since 2018.
Jay Chou, Research Manager, Worldwide PC Monitors at IDC, said: "From 2018 to 2021, global monitor growth has continued at a rapid pace, and the high growth in 2021 marks the end of this growth cycle. Whether it's businesses switching to Windows 10 to upgrade individuals Computers and monitors, as well as the need for monitors as people work from home due to the epidemic, have stimulated the otherwise quiet display industry. However, we are now seeing an increasingly saturated market, and inflationary pressures from the new crown epidemic and the Ukraine crisis will further accelerate in 2022 Cooling market environment. IDC expects global display shipments to decline by 3.6% year-on-year in 2022."
According to IDC China's latest "IDC China PC Monitor Tracking Report, Q4 2021", China's PC monitor market shipped 8.16 million units, down 2% year-on-year. In 2021, China's PC monitor market shipped 32.31 million units, a year-on-year increase of 9.7%, the highest growth rate in a decade.
After the significant release of demand, under the trend of the overall decline of China's display market in 2022, the growth opportunities of the market segments mainly exist in the following three aspects:
Gaming monitors: China shipped 3.13 million gaming monitors in 2021, a year-on-year increase of only 2.5%. There are two main reasons for the lower-than-expected growth. On the one hand, due to the prevention and control of the epidemic, the demand for Internet cafes across the country is sluggish; on the other hand, the shortage of graphics cards and price increases have seriously suppressed the DIY market demand. With the decline in the cost of monitors and graphics cards, under the joint promotion of manufacturers and major platforms, the scope of the e-sports crowd has expanded, and the demand for e-sports monitors has maintained a growing trend. An increase of 25.7%.
Curved monitors: Following the upstream supply chain adjustment, the supply of curved monitors has not been well improved, and the shortage of graphics cards has curbed the demand for curved gaming. In 2021, China's curved display shipments will be 2.2 million units, down 31.2% year-on-year. With the ease of supply and the improvement of technology, new brands have increased the layout of curved gaming products, and consumers' attitudes towards domestic curved gaming has changed positively. Curved displays will gradually resume growth in 2022.
High Resolution Display: The product structure is upgraded, and high resolution continues to penetrate. In 2021, China's high-resolution display shipments will be 4.57 million units, with a market share of 14.1%, a year-on-year increase of 34.2%. With the expansion of display application scenarios and the improvement of video content, higher-resolution display devices are required for video editing, image processing and other scenarios. High-resolution displays will not only increase their share in the consumer market, but will also gradually penetrate the commercial market.
