From 2013 to 2022, Mainland China has seen the highest annual growth rate in Micro LED patents globally, with an increase of 37.5%, ranking first. The European Union region comes in second with a growth rate of 10.0%. Following are Taiwan, South Korea, and the United States with growth rates of 9.9%, 4.4%, and 4.1% respectively.

In terms of the total number of patents, as of 2023, South Korea holds the largest share of global Micro LED patents with 23.2% (1,567 items), followed by Japan with 20.1% (1,360 items). Mainland China accounts for 18.0% (1,217 items), ranking third in the world, with the United States and the European Union region in fourth and fifth place, holding 16.0% (1,080 items) and 11.0% (750 items) respectively.

After 2020, a wave of investment and mass production of Micro LED has formed globally, with about 70-80% of investment projects located in Mainland China. If the calculation includes the Taiwan region, this proportion may reach as high as 90%.

In the collaboration of the upstream and downstream of Micro LED, global LED manufacturers are also inseparable from Chinese participants. For instance, Samsung, one of the leaders in South Korea's Micro LED display, has continued to rely on Taiwan's display panels and upstream enterprises related to Micro LED. Samsung's cooperation with Taiwan's AU Optronics in the THE WALL product line has lasted for several years. Mainland China's Leyard has been providing upstream industrial chain cooperation and support for South Korea's LG. Recently, South Korean company Audio Gallery and Swiss company Goldmund have released new generations of 145-inch and 163-inch Micro LED home theater products, with Shenzhen's Chuangxian Optoelectronics as their upstream partner.

It can be seen that the global ranking trend of Micro LED patents, the high growth trend of China's Micro LED patent numbers, and the large-scale investment and leading situation of China's Micro LED in the field of industrialization and manufacturing are all consistent. At the same time, if the Micro LED industry patent continues to maintain such a high growth trend in 2024, the total and existing volume of Micro LED patents in the Mainland China region may also surpass South Korea and become the country and region with the most Micro LED patents globally.
